Collectors are already setting their sights on the ICCC 2022 exclusive action figure wave based on “The Mandalorian” TV series on Disney+. But D2C StudiosMatt Brookins and ICCC showrunner Michael Havens have upped the ante again.

Today they announced that celebrated Kenner photographer Kim Simmons, known as “The Man Who Shot Luke Skywalker,” will be doing the photographic work for the custom wave of action figures. Brookins Reports:

“I always enjoy taking pictures of the figures and dioramas I create as I design my custom packaging. I think I get some good photos, but I’m definitely not a professional. I did have the honor of meeting THE obligatory master of action figure photography at ICCC 2021: Kim Simmons!

“I can remember when I was young looking at the original Kenner Star Wars packaging, and staring for hours at the photographs of the other figures, vehicles, and playsets available. Like many kids, I remember checking them off, circling them, etc. to show what I had and what I still needed. So many of those photographs I studied were done by Mr. Simmons. So it was quite a pleasure to meet him in person. And he is truly a friendly and interesting person!

“When Michael Havens asked if I would do the exclusive merchandise again for 2022, I  immediately thought pie in the sky, ‘wouldn’t it be great if Kim Simmons could do all the photography?’ I didn’t think that was really possible, but a boy can dream. So I was quite surprised when I asked if he would be interested, and he enthusiastically said ‘yes.’

“He truly is passionate about his work. He really got into it, and the results are astounding! I don’t know how to fully articulate how special his work is, but he truly has an eye for how to pose, light, etc. the figures. It’s as if they have some kind of motion or action, even though these are still images. And he is quite modest about the dioramas he builds for his pictures, but they really are super impressive and amazing.

“He took thousands of pictures for all the various packaging I was dreaming up, and he is a real professional. I can’t wait for people to see the end result of what he’s done! In the meantime, see the samples presented in this post.”

Luke Jedi, Boba Fett, and the two other yet-to-be-revealed custom action figures will be available in limited quantities, and with different packaging, during all three days of ICCC 2022, April 29-May 1, at the Sheraton Music City resort in Nashville, TN. Each day will feature different packaging. Tickets are on sale now. #ICCCon
