INFLUENTIAL KENNER TOY INDUSTRY DESIGNER TOM OSBORNE TRAVELS TO ICCC

 
 

We are excited to announce that toy-making legend Tom Osborne will join us at ICCC 2024. With over 40 years of influence and innovation, Osborne will engage with collectors and fans, sharing insights into his remarkable career in the toy industry.

Osborne is a noted industrial designer, conceptualist, illustrator, and wordsmith, with over With over 40 years of influence and innovation in the industry. He has been involved in some of the most iconic brands in the toy world. During his tenure as Director of Design at Kenner, he led teams in creating and executing legendary product lines, including Star Wars, Care Bears, Ghostbusters, Strawberry Shortcake, Play-Doh, Centurions, and M.A.S.K. His groups were responsible for Kenner's production designs and many second-year product concepts.

Osborne’s career at Kenner spanned 19 years, from a co-op student to Director of Design. He later co-founded a successful design consultancy with fellow Kenner designers Jim Swearingen and Tim Effler. This firm catered to children’s products and various non-toy industries, including Thermos, Ford, Fellowes, and Riddell.

As a faculty member at the University of Cincinnati’s highly-rated DAAP college, Osborne teaches product sketching and rendering, mentors students, and provides career consultations. He has influenced over 900 graduates of the industrial design program.

Residing in Cincinnati with his wife of over 40 years and their two Dachshunds, Osborne enjoys playing piano and trombone, often jamming with local musicians. He is an expert in automotive design history and the history of the Indianapolis 500.
