ICCCon is excited to announce that Matt Brookins — a celebrated artist who creates custom action figures and dioramas, and a prominent long-time member of the Star Wars collecting community — has designed a vintage-style ICCC 2021 Exclusive Boba Fett action figure based on the original Kenner prototype designs. As the owner of D2C Studios, Brookings detailed his custom concept in his own words:

“I am excited to announce that for my next project, I am working with Michael Havens on an exclusive for the 2021 ICCCon! And of course, the figure must be Boba Fett related!

“I have done Holiday Special Boba Fett figures a couple of ways over the years. The most common way has been for me to change the shoulder pads and chest plate to match more of how he looked in the cartoon (and then paint him one of the various ways his colors were done in the special). For this project, I wanted to do something a little more unique.

“The trick with vintage customs is always to make sure you maintain that 70s and 80s Kenner charm. If you go too screen accurate, suddenly it may not look quite how Kenner would have done it. On the other hand, you don’t want to keep every part exactly like Kenner did it, because then it isn’t as special. So I opted to go for a custom inspired by the various prototype Fett figures (the goal isn’t to look exactly like any of them). For references, I looked at the 20 back Fett offer drawing, and the many pictures found on The SWCA website. I then decided which production Kenner figures I would use as donors, to mix and match the parts. This is something I do for all custom figures - look at the character, and then look at all the production figures to see which parts would be best for each pieces’ starting point.

Only 50 of this ICCCon exclusive “holiday special” custom will be available on-site in a collectible box. 50 mint on card ICCCon paint variants will be available via preorder on-site during the convention this April. If the pre-order is fully backed at ICCCon then Brookins will produce 50 more in a green and gray paint variant— just like your favorite bounty hunter! Only 150 will be molded ever!
