With ICCC 2022 just weeks away and collectors clamoring to get their hands on these custom exclusives, D2C Studios’ Matt Brookins and ICCC showrunner Michael Havens are releasing the final details around the special project. This post’s focus: The incredible box art and design.

The four figures in the exclusive wave of custom action figures based on “The Mandalorian” TV series on Disney+ include Boba Fett, Luke Skywalker Jedi Knight, Ahsoka Tano, and Bib Fortuna! In this post, Brookins discusses the deep dive he took to give these custom figures the packaging treatment they deserve. Brookins reports:

“I really love the colorful and fun look of the Popy boxes. As someone who grew up with North American Kenner, I was not aware of Popy until I was an adult. So it was quite a fun discovery. Doing a Popy design for ICCC was rather enjoyable. Both Luke Jedi and Ahsoka Tano are pictured above with Popy boxes.

“One of the most popular creative ideas I came up with over the years was doing the Kenner large style box (used for their 1:12 scale line) scaled down to the mini-figure line. What’s exciting about the ones I did this year — that differs from the past — is that I had world-renowned toy photographer Kim Simmons do the photography! For Luke, I built the diorama and supplied the figures, and Kim made the magic happen.

“Ahsoka’s box was fun to do. I enjoyed drawing her. And Kim Simmons built an incredible diorama for the photographs! He told me he was just doing a simple setup, so I was floored to see how complex abs amazing it really was!

“Boba Fett is always a fun one to draw. This was the first drawing I did for the 2022 conference. Kim Simmons has an incredible Jabba the Hutt throne room diorama, so I asked if he would be willing to use that for the photography. He did a great job, and we made sure to get Bib Fortuna in there too.

“Each boxed figure will come with a unique ‘mini card’ in it. These cards depict one of the 41 figures from my Mandalorian custom series, as either illustrated by me (characters) or photographed by Kim Simmons (figures).”

All four custom action figures will be available in limited quantities, and with different packaging, during all three days of ICCC 2022, April 29-May 1, at the Sheraton Music City resort in Nashville, TN. Each day will feature different packaging. Tickets are on sale now. #ICCCon
