UPDATE: BUILD STRATEGY FOR THE ICCCON 2021 EXCLUSIVE VINTAGE-STYLE BOBA FETT

Custom action figure artist Matt Brookins, who is producing an ICCC 2021 Exclusive Boba Fett action figure based on the original Kenner prototype designs, provided ICCCon with an update on his plans and progress:

“I start with vintage Kenner figures to make my customs. I always use ‘beaters’ rather than mint figures. For one, it’s cheaper! But also, it seems justified to give a worn, old figure new life, when it may otherwise just sit in a box or closet forgotten.

‘“Once I select the figures I need, I take them apart. You may have heard or read the term “boil and pop” before, and that’s what I do. Take near-boiling water and put the figure in it. Wait a few seconds for the plastic to soften, and then take it out. You can then forcefully pull the legs, arms, and head out of the torso, often leaving the attachment pegs in place, although sometimes they do break.

“The plastic returns to its previous state once it cools. Often it is a case of taking legs from one figure, arms from another, a torso from another, and a head from yet another. Then grinding, sanding, sculpting, etc. (more on that next week). In the case of a kit-bashed Fett, I did a little more mixing and matching than usual.
